John was appointed to the Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority in 2015, and have served as the chair since 2019. The Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority is an advisory board for the City that makes periodic reports and advisory non-binding recommendations to the city manager or the city commission for the improvement of standards for the city in marine-related matters to promote and maintain a safe clean and healthy marine environment to be enjoyed by the city's residents and visitors. This includes working in cooperation with federal, state and local agencies interested in marine standards and clean and clear waterways; and to publicizing the importance of adequate standards; and holding and conducting public hearings, discussions, forums and institutes to arrange programs for the presentation of information by experts in related fields.
John has also served on the city’s FEMA Program for Public Information since 2017. This committee was successful in getting the Miami Beach’s Community Rating Score reduced, earning properties insured through the National Flood Insurance Program over $8 million in credits. John has served as Vice President of FirstService Financial since 2011 where he oversees insurance, deposit placement and lending relationships for the South Region of FirstService Residential. He has lived in Miami Beach since 2002.
