Description
Commissioner Libbin would like to count with your assistance on Sunday, March 8th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to greet and distribute portable ashtrays to smokers on the beach. The goal is to encourage smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts properly instead of on the sand. As some of you may know, cigarette butts can take many years to disintegrate into the earth and are very time consuming and costly in the meantime to clean up. We would like to do all that we can to educate the public about how important beach cleanliness is to our environment and to our economy. Please join us at the Lummus Park 7th Street beach entrance (at the serpentine walkway behind the showers). We will meet at 1:00 p.m. and pass out cheat sheets (with an idea of how to greet the beachgoers), buttons for participants to wear, biodegradable bags and portable ashtrays.
