You've probably received a lot of emails this summer, and seen a lot of pop-ups on websites informing you of new privacy policies. That's because of a recent law that's made a significant impact on how companies comply with the collections and processing of personal data. The law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is actually a European Union law, but will and is already starting to have far-reaching effects beyond European borders, as U/S.-based companies must comply with the new regulation when doing business within the EU. These new regulations will affect businesses in a myriad of industries including technology, advertising, healthcare, legal, hospitality, and financial, to have a few.
