Description
Over the past seven panel discussions, we’ve explored crucial topics such as the rise in cancer diagnoses, the importance of prevention, access to both conventional and alternative treatments, and the challenges within the medical system. We’ve examined how COVID-19 impacted cancer care, leading to additional health issues like diabetes and mental illness, and highlighted the role of genetic testing in diagnosing and treating breast cancer, especially within specific racial and ethnic groups. Our most recent discussion emphasized the disparities in breast cancer care for Black women, calling for culturally competent healthcare and more research within underserved communities.
This year’s discussion aims to explore advancements in cancer care, such as immunotherapy, clinical trials, and vaccines, to promote greater awareness, participation, and equitable access to cutting-edge treatments. The topic of the 2024 panel discussion is:
The Direction of Cancer Care: Immunotherapy, Clinical Trials, and Vaccines.
H3’s Founder and Director, Janinha Piazzetta, is moderating the discussion panel. Towards the end, the audience will have an opportunity to participate with questions.
Our 2024 Panelists:
Special guest: Judy Perkins, whose unique experience in immunotherapy treatment led her to the cure.
Our Medical Team:
Alejandra T. Perez, MD: Breast Oncologist at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Talia Donenberg: Genetic counselor at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Simonnette (Simmy) Lucas, MPH, CIP, is the Director of the Office of Research Integrity at Miami Cancer Institute (MCI).
As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will also present the Cancer Hero Awards by Vice Mayor Alex Fernandez. These awards celebrate unsung heroes who have profoundly impacted the lives of breast cancer patients but often go unrecognized.
