ELIZABETH TAYLOR: POSTERS OF A LEGEND Long considered to be among the most beautiful women in the world, Elizabeth Taylor offers much more than physical perfection. Throughout her film, television, and Broadway career, she has appeared in roughly 75 productions, earning two Academy awards and the adulation of fans worldwide. In her later years she has become an outspoken advocate for AIDS research. But it is perhaps through the medium of film ephemera that Taylor's image most strongly endures. The movie poster brought her image into cinemas around the world, and through these posters we can learn about the ways that her films were positioned for local markets. MDPL member and guest curator Kendall Natvig guides us in a look at Taylor through the art of the movie poster. His collection of Taylor movie posters, numbering over 400 items, is one of the largest in the world. Natvig is a longtime film poster collector/preservationist, with a focus on the films of Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Seberg, and the specific film 2001: A Space Odyssey. He is a former literature professor with a published a novel (Perplejo, 1986), and has served on the board of the Miami Beach Cinematheque. He has an MA from the University of Iowa. The exhibit is open daily from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, until 03 July 2009. Free admission.
