All across South Florida numerous community organizations, hospitals, clubs, day care centers, religious organizations, schools and many others are gearing up this week to host Family Day events. Family Day officially takes place on Monday, September 28th and is a national movement to inform parents that the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America?s kids substance free. Family Day reminds parents that Dinner Makes A Difference. By supporting Family Day, our hope is to inspire families to commit to this rich tradition and to give children and youth what they want, more time with the number one influence in their life ? mom and dad. Experience and research clearly shows that parents have an inherent desire to keep their kids healthy, to raise children who make good decisions and who make the choice to be drug-free.Family Day is unique in that it is a simple, tangible and effective prevention tool for parents and children. Staying closely tuned in to your children?s struggles, worries and day-to-day lives, gives parents the opportunity to act quickly where necessary. And, the dinner table is the perfect place for these types of conversations to unfold.
