Description

Just in time for the end of school, Red Chemistry Inc. will bring a film and Art festival for children to the Teatro Abanico-Coconut Grove in April 28-29, at the North Shore Park and Youth Center in May 18-19-20 and at the Byron Carlyle Theater in North Beach in June 2-3. The program will showcase eight international films with acclaimed European gems by independent filmmakers along with short films from UK and France. The program will open at the Teatro Abanico-Academy of Arts and Mind in Coconut Grove with the ?Tillamook treasure? (U.S), ?Globi and the stolen shadows? (Switzerland) and ?Knetter? (Holland). On Sunday, the program wraps up with ?The Eye of the Dolphin? (Canada), the ?Surfer King? (U.S.A), ?La prophétie des Grenouilles-Raining Cats and Dogs? (France) and ?Minoes?(Hollande). ?We decided to have a wide selection so that the children of any age would be entertained? says Executive Director Isabelle Landman, former artistic director of Cinedition-Paris, which facilitated relationships between publishers and movie producers. In May, the Art Festival will open with a jazz concert (Echo Jazz) and an outdoor screening of ?Happy Cricket? in May 18th. To enliven the festivities, the North Shore Park and Youth Center will welcome more than twenty different artists during the week end of May 19-20: some will teach the children during the week end?s Art workshops, some will exhibit their work, others will donate their time and support the workshops. To appeal to the neighborhood children with varied interests, these workshops will focus on diverse topics including : yoga, martial arts, mural painting, instruments discovery, puppet show, aerial dance, hip hop, story telling and traditional dances from Bangladesh. Throughout the festival, there will be occasions for the participants to be on stage. ?We also wanted to give the teens of North Shore Park the opportunity to be on stage, not only in their Park but also at the Byron Carlyle so they can realize how different it is to perform on a real stage? says Isabelle Landman. The teen agers will indeed perform two times with their play called ?Streets?. The manager of the cultural activities for teenagers, Willie Priegues wrote the play and adapted it to the team of teens. On June 2-3, at the Byron Carlyle Theater, another selection of movies will be screened: the Blue Butterfly (Canada), My backyard is a Mountain (Porto Rico) will enrich the program already shown at the Coconut Grove-Teatro Abanico. Teatro Abanico-Academy of Arts And Mind- Coconut Grove: Film tickets will be $7 for adults and students, $5 for children, available on a first-come, first served basis on-site.
