9th Annual City National Bank Better Beach Awards
Organized by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, the event is a prestigious occasion honoring influential, trendsetting leaders in the local real estate industry. This event is attended by Miami Beach's top realtors, architects, developers, designers, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs.
Nominees must be people, projects or buildings working in or located on Miami Beach, zipcodes 33139, 33140 and 33141.
All Finalists must attend the award ceremony.

1.HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARDS: The nominee has demonstrated extraordinary preservation and conservatory actions were taken to protect property, objects, landscapes or other artifacts of historical significance to their completed project, while maintaining the same use. The completed project was able to maintain the identity of a Historic site and respect proper adaptive re-use strategies and meet approval of Historic Preservation Board and/or obtain Certificate of Occupancy for the new adaptive use. The nominee must be the architect or general contractor for a residential or commercial property. The Owner, Developer or other affiliates of the project will be credited.
Sub-Categories include:
-Preservation of a Historic Residential Property (Single Family/Condo)
-Preservation of a Historic Commercial Property
-Adaptive Re-Use/Rehab of a Historic Building
Criteria for Judging:
-Significance of the history of the building, including its architect, owners, etc
-Extensiveness of the research on the historic property used to undertake the historic preservation project
-Quality of the craftsmanship and historic detail retained in the historic building
-Creativity in the ways (if any) that the preserved property addresses issues of rising sea levels
-Quality of the relationship of the renovated historic building to neighboring buildings and its context in the city
-Appropriateness of the activities occurring within the preserved historic property for the City of Miami Beach
2. INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE AWARD: The nominee has demonstrated a unique and unusual twist to the design. The property should show innovative architectural solutions, while creating striking and functional spaces. The building shall be an outstanding example of functionality, and design in the field of Architecture and take advantage of site and context.
The nominee shall be the Architect. The Owner, Developer or other affiliates of the project will be credited.
Sub-Categories include:
-Custom Single Family Home
-Multi-family/condo
-Commercial/mixed-use/hotel
-Non completed/Speculative Projects (concepts and/or proposals)
Criteria for Judging:
-Uniqueness (How unusual and innovative is this design concept? To what extent is the creative concept a breakthrough as an idea or a new direction in design?)
-Impact (How much does the creative concept intrigue, amaze, surprise, calm, inspire, or transfix and how appropriate is that experience?)
-Breadth (How well does the creative concept carry through the entire work?)
-Excellence (What level of cleverness, innovation, and expertise is demonstrated in the detailing?)
3. INNOVATIVE DESIGN AWARD: The nominee has demonstrated exceptional creativity towards a completed project in Miami Beach either residential or commercial. The Design should be an exemplar vision of innovation and forward-thinking unique to Miami Beach's identity.
The Nominee shall be the Interior Designer. Owner, Developer or other affiliates of the project will be credited.

-Restaurant
-Hotel/workspace
Criteria for Judging:
-Uniqueness (How unusual and innovative is this design concept? To what extent is the creative concept a breakthrough as an idea or a new direction in design?)
-Impact (How much does the creative concept intrigue, amaze, surprise, calm, inspire, or transfix and how appropriate is that experience?)
-Breadth (How well does the creative concept carry through the entire work?)
-Excellence (What level of cleverness, innovation, and expertise is demonstrated in the detailing?)
4. THE BETTER BEACH AWARD: The nominee has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in terms of giving back to our community, city, and those around them. It can be an individual that has devoted time, resources and effort, and has endeavored and succeeded to make the Miami Beach community a better place.
Sub-Categories include:
-Real Estate Industry Professional (agent/developer/industry at large)
-Local Miami Beach Residents
-Organization/Initiative
Criteria for Judging:
-Nominee is actively involved in community work and/or service in Miami Beach
-Nominees has a positive impact in the community
-The area of service nominee is involved in is NOT directly related to any sort of monetary gain or is as a result of their role or profession
-Nominee is looked to as a leader and has influenced others to get involved in the initiative
5. THE GREEN AWARD: nominee has implemented exceptional sustainability practices in a recently completed project or as improvements to an existing project ? open to all built projects regardless of completion date or genre.
Sub-Categories include:
-Project
-Initiative
Criteria for Judging:
-Does the project qualify for a Certification such as LEED, Green Globes, other ? if yes, what level of certification has been awarded
-Does the project include any alternative energy generation?
-Do the "sustainable" parts of the project include the whole building or just a limited area of the building?
-How does the project positively impact the community? Are there any ongoing community initiatives?
-When was the project issued permits? When was the project built?
6. RISING STARS: REAL ESTATE AGENT: Within the first 24 months of their industry career, the nominee has hit the ground running and has taken the initiative to immerse themselves into the Real Estate industry and go above and beyond the minimum requirements and excel amongst their peers. The nominee has demonstrated expanding knowledge in the technological, marketing and professional education arenas. The top "Rising Stars" will be honored.
-Agent- Accepting the first 5 nominees per real estate firm located on the Beach
Criteria for Judging:
-Has established a presence and brand in the industry, whether by active attendance at events, marketing efforts, effective communication of functions
-Has independently accomplished something notable and measurable
-Has a clear plan for the future that reflects and is supported by their successes thus far
7. RISING STARS: REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY: Within the first 24 months of their industry career, the nominee has hit the ground running and has taken the initiative to immerse themselves into the industry and go above and beyond the minimum requirements and excel amongst their peers. The nominee has demonstrated expanding knowledge in the technological, marketing and professional education arenas.
Real Estate Industry - We will accept nominations in any industry within the real estate community. Examples: Law, Banking, Title Companies, Developers, Architects, Insurance, Management Companies, etc
Criteria for Judging:
-Has established a presence and brand in the industry, whether by active attendance at events, marketing efforts, effective communication of functions
-Has independently accomplished something notable and measurable
-Has a clear plan for the future that reflects and is supported by their successes thus far
