Description
2011 VETERANS DAY PARADE AND PICNIC
Parade Details:
The Veterans Day Parade will be held on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th. Theparade will travel through the City of Miami Beach, followed by a wreath laying ceremony and picnic. It will honor the men and women who have sacrificed to fight for freedom. Commencing at 9:00 a.m., the parade will bring participants south on Washington Avenue and west on 11th St. before entering Flamingo Park.
The wreath laying ceremony and 21-gun salute at Flamingo Park will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. following the parade. A moment of silence will be observed at 11:00 a.m. in honor of the First World War Armistice Day Tradition. Immediately following, a picnic will be hosted for parade participants including live music, a Makos Military Jets Flyover and other surprises.
The outreach to schools, organizations and businesses has been very well received as more than 2000 participants walked in the 2010 parade. Let’s help make this year’s events the best and most memorable ever!
Miami Beach Commissioner Jerry Libbin is again helping the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3559 to organize the Veterans Day Parade in Miami Beach. They are inviting all local schools, organizations and businesses to participate and show their support by marching and/or performing. There is no fee to participate, but donations, in any denomination, to the Veterans of Foreign Wars / Miami Beach Post 3559, are welcome. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
“The men and women who serve our country with distinction deserve our appreciation every day. This parade gives us an opportunity to come together as a community to thank them”said Commissioner Libbin.
