DESCRIPTION:The Women's Fund Miami-Dade\, with the support of the Carrie Meek Foundation's Supporting Safer Communities Grant program\, has been on a critical\, year-long journey to deepen our understanding of gun violence its toll not only on direct victims themselves\, but also on their families\, friends\, and communities. Our work seeks to uncover unmet needs and address gaps in support for affected communities through a gender lens.\n\nKeynote Speaker: Abigail Hurst\, Director of Trauma Informed- Programs (EVERYTOWN For Gun Safety)\n\n\nSpeakers: Samantha Barrios (Florida State Director GIFFORDS)\, Romania Dukes (Mothers Fighting 4 Justice) and Shameka Pierce (Peacemakers Department Sisterhood Wellness Circle)\n\nIn Miami-Dade County\, gun violence is often discussed through the lens of its most visible victims\, yet the women and girls in the background of these tragedies are frequently overlooked and forgotten. Living in communities plagued by systemic inequities and generational trauma\, they bear the emotional and physical burdens of caring for injured loved ones and mourning those lost to violence. With limited resources to address their compounded trauma\, their stories remain largely invisible\, even as they endure the lasting impacts of this ongoing crisis.\n\n\nThis webinar will shed light on the unseen toll gun violence takes on women\, their families\, and their communities\, amplifying voices that are too often unheard and exploring how when the yellow tape and police officers are gone\, mothers\, partners\, sisters and families are left mourning. However\, with pain comes immense power. There are numerous women anti-violence advocates in Miami-Dade who work night and day to provide resources\, support\, and compassion for their communities and advocate for policy change at the local\, state\, and national levels.\n\nAnchored in our  Health and Well-Being Pillar\, this event will examine the unique challenges women encounter in the face of gun violence\, affecting their health\, and the overall well-being of the community\, and identify ways to provide support.
